I had started writing about Challengehost.com, then discovered that they have just revamped their website (October 2000). I placed a website with Challengehost in January 2000, and had a massive 500 Meg of space for just $4.95 per month. I have recently sold my website and am in the process of preparing another one; Challengehost will be getting my business again.
Challengehost is now offering five hosting packages, all designed to suit from the one-person business right up to an "all the bells and whistles" large company. If you want your own domain hosted, but you don't intend it to be a large site, then the Value package could be just what you want. For just $4.95 per month, you get 500 Meg of space, unlimited email aliases, forwarding and autoresponders, your own cgi-bin and detailed trafficstats, to name a few things. If you need more space, then try the Gold package at $4.95 monthly; this will give you 500Meg of space, plus all the things previously mentioned, plus access to a secure socket layer encryption and free secure server URL; and more besides. At the top end, for just under $19.95 monthly, you get the Platinum Plus package, with 500Meg of space and a pile of other features that would suit a busy online company. There is no point in me listing piles of features here, because you can access all the details easily at the Challengehost site.
One very important thing; technical and other queries' email support is very good; I have always had answers within 36 hours or so, sometimes quicker. Although my first web site wasn't exactly a huge profit-maker, requiring masses of web-space, at least it was always there, ready and waiting for me and my readers...unlike some other web hosts who I won't name, who actually managed to lose my entire site into cyber-space and caused no end of aggravation in the process.
Challengehost offer to take your payments either monthly, quarterly or annually, so you have choices to suit you.
You get what you pay for; if you're looking for a reliable hosting service, do consider including Challengehost on your short-list.
